Bad Weather Brewing Company was founded in 2012 by Zac Carpenter and Joe Giambruno. Bad Weather started brewing beer in 2013 in Inbound/Lucid Brewing’s facility in Minnetonka under an agreement known as an alternating proprietorship. The arrangement with Lucid provided Bad Weather limited production capacity of 60 barrels per month, but enabled Zac and Joe to successfully build the Bad Weather brand through hard work, dedication, creativity, and a strong relationship with their beer distributor. Due to the success of the brews, demand for their product increased to the point where the business was ready to establish its own brewery and taproom.
After a long search for the right location, Bad Weather found a very distressed, foreclosed property on West 7th just blocks from the Xcel Energy Center. Fast forward several months, this same distressed property became a dynamic brewery and taproom that opened in October 2015. In the months since, Bad Weather has become an awesome amenity to the neighborhood and business community. The taproom is a lively, family-friendly space where folks can enjoy a finely crafted beer, or folks can take their pints outside on the patio. Like many local breweries, Bad Weather sells craft beer by the glass, growler, and the occasional 750ml bottle in the taproom, as well as, merchandise including t-shirt, hats, and glassware. You can also find the company’s delicious brews at a number of local bars, restaurants, and retailers.
The growth of Bad Weather did not stop in October 2015. The company recently completed the addition of several new pieces of equipment that will enable it to increase the varieties of beer produced and double production capacity. Zac and Joe would probably be the first people to tell you they could not have done this without their Head Brewer, Andy Ruhland, the many great employees they have, and most definitely the outstanding beer community here in Minnesota. It will be great to see what the future holds for this dynamic and growing small business!
